Career Of Evil - Book Review

It has been half a year since I got to know about the third novel in the Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith (a.k.a J K Rowling). Titled the "Career of Evil" , the book promised to be as intriguing as the title itself.

I started reading the book in early November, a few days after its release in late October.

Career Of Evil - Book Review

In Rowling's own words, the book paints a grisly theme. The Cuckoo's Calling was fairly decent, while The Silkworm dabbled with a hideous plot. However, the Career of Evil, goes beyond them all. After all, it's story revolves around a man who makes a career in evil.

As with all Rowling books, this one is a whodunnit too.

The book talks about a series of crimes.  Rowling has painted an extremely complicated criminal, always gory and dark. She has explored the dark underbelly of the our society, emphasizing on topics which are otherwise brushed under the carpet. This book is not for children.

They key protagonist of the novel, Cormoran Strike is his characteristic self - intelligent, cautious, broke, and stifling in and out of love. His partner, Robin, continues to improve on her demanding job - taking up complex tasks, playing with fire , being in the center of action.

The book touches on love and lust, jealousy and envy, happiness and sadness, exploitation and hope, brash ideas and stinging memories.

Strike indeed does manage to solve the mystery, with generous help from Robin and others, including lots of luck. And yes, he does it before the police, not to their chagrin. And in trademark Rowling style, she manages to close to the book with a mystery, which promises to keep fans guessing till she comes up with the next book.

This one is a must read for any Rowling fan. And if anyone thinks that Rowling specializes in book for children, this one will surely change your opinion.
